It’s almost December and I can’t even believe it. At times this year has felt like every hour is a day and other times I feel like I’ve lost an entire month. Time means nothing during COVID. I know we’ve all been struggling and trying to get by as best as possible. I’m right there with you. Alberta just implemented a new set of lockdown rules because our cases have grown exponentially over the past couple of weeks.

Christmas is officially right around the corner and I am not at all ready. We won’t be celebrating as we usually do but I think it’s still important to make it special. I’ll still be watching Christmas movies, eating all the Christmas treats, and sending gifts to friends and family.

When I’ve been thinking about the things on my own Christmas list, I’m leaning heavy into comfort. Since we’re all stuck at home anyway we might as well make our space as cozy and comfortable as possible. I’m also always about shopping small and local, but this year that is more important than ever. Small businesses have taken an enormous hit during COVID. If you are planning to spend money on Christmas gifts then please do your best to support those small businesses that are struggling. All the following gift ideas are from small companies located in Canada, yay!

I am predicting a lot of nights on the couch with a blanket, cup of tea, and a whole lot of Netflix. Who am I kidding, that’s basically my life already. Blankets aren’t something we’re willing to splurge on for ourselves, and that’s why they make such a great gift. This one is the perfect neutral colour and will keep you super warm all winter long.

Other than a couple of rugs, we have no carpet in the house. Slippers are an absolute essential! I love that these mocassins are simple so they work for men or women. They’re also lined to keep those toes toasty. A definite upgrade over those fluffy socks you’re probably wearing right now.

I live in toques (beanies) in the winter. Sure they keep your head warm, but they also hide your hair when it’s long overdue for a haircut and has relied on dry shampoo for too long. These come in plenty of colour options and I think the furry pompom is a cute touch. I’m adding the grey with buffalo plaid trim to my Christmas list.

I’m still working from home and it doesn’t seem like that will be changing anytime soon. And let’s just say that my home office set-up isn’t exactly ideal. I could definitely use some personal (but useful) touches that will make it feel a little more official. I love the clean design of this desk calendar. I think it works for anyone but there are plenty of other designs you can choose from in the shop.

What’s more romantic than lighting a candle and curling up to watch Netflix. Ok, lots of things, but we’re doing what we can right now. I love burning candles and this shop has quickly become a favourite. They have lots of unique scents that are made with essential oils. That means you get a nice natural scent, and not something overwhelming. My favourite is the Lemon Rosemary.

I’m not much of a bather, but there’s not much better than climbing into a hot bath after spending time outside in the winter. I’m expecting there will be more of that this year since we’re really trying to embrace winter with such limited indoor activities available. It’s easy to take your bath to the next level with this rose and lavender bath soak. It would make the perfect stocking stuffer for any special lady in your life.

Learning a new skill is a good way to combat boredom. This macrame wall hanging kit comes with everything you need to make it yourself. And you get your own piece of art to hang on the wall after. I think the mustard colour of this one is super pretty but there are a variety of colours you can choose from.

Any new pet owners on your Christmas shopping list? It feels like everyone got a new puppy this year, including me! Why not get the pooch in the festive spirit too by getting them one of these super cute flannel bandanas. I guarantee the pet parents will love it just as much.

Masks have proven to be one of the best ways to stop the spread of COVID and it looks like they aren’t going anywhere soon. These are my favourite masks. I bought a couple right at the start and they are the ones I reach for most often out of our growing collection. They have really good coverage and even fit my partner who has a big head and a beard.

This one breaks the theme a little but hey, aren’t we all reaching for wallets for all that online shopping?? Weak connection but I still think it’s a solid gift, and men can be such a challenge to shop for! These wallets are leather and you can get them personalized to make it that much more special. It’s the perfect Dad gift that will remind him of you each time he pulls out his wallet.

I’d love to hear what’s on your Christmas list this year! Are you sticking with the comfy, cozy theme or going in a different direction? Or maybe you need even more ideas, well Etsy has your back. Check out these Editor’s Picks for Staying In for more inspiration. Stay safe friends!

  1. I was thinking about you the other day! Good to see you back and totally agree with your assessment re: days either zipping by or dragging on and on into eternity. What a weird year.

Those moccasins look so comfy! Even though I am back at the office, upgrading my slipper game at home is on my to do list for 2021!

I don’t really have anything super specific on my list this year — but I rarely do. Is that weird? It’s likely weird.
